The Sanctuary was founded March 24th 2013, by Pastor John and Debra Hankins, in a small store front (about 1,200 SQ Ft.) in Cedar Rapids Ia. Immediately the small church consisting of four couples began to go into a season of prayer and fasting seeking the Lord’s face and direction. 

Within 6 months the Lord presented an opportunity to secure the Lincoln School building in Cedar Rapids. Stepping out in faith, without any financial backing the Lord delivered into our stewardship a 29,000 SQ Ft school building, that we now call home.

We have assisted many other ministries and non-profits over the years as well as housed The Koinonia School of Discipleship, that has helped and housed over 150 young believers since 2014.

We are a small congregation that is in hot pursuit of the Fathers heart. We are a non-denominational church that is led and moved by the Spirit of God and hold fast to Biblical teachings. 

We believe in the five-fold ministry and all the giftings of the Spirit, that empowers us to be the Church that Jesus has called us to be. 

We believe in absolute and complete freedom in Christ. And that is expressed in our worship. Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

We are hospitable and know how to love well.
